How to reset an m-pesa pin

You want to know how to reset an M-pesa pin for many reasons. For example you may have forgotten your, pin which is the most common reason why Safaricom customers want to reset their PIN. Sometimes also you may think your PIN is compromised. Other times the M-Pesa account is not yours, but you would like to assist someone else to recover their account that has fallen out of use because of a lost PIN.

Unfortunately, due to the inherent nature of password security, this method will not remind you of the current m-pesa pin, but you can change to a new one even if you don’t remember the old one.

Safaricom, the provider of the M-pesa service has put together this simple procedure to assist their customers to recover a forgotten password. However, due to the many criminal elements attempting to get into other people’s M-Pesa accounts, this method requires you to have set up a security question prior.

 To reset your M-pesa PIN: 

  1.  Dial *334# 
  2. Select My Account 
  3. Select M-PESA PIN Manager 
  4. Select M-PESA Forgot PIN 
  5. Enter your ID/Passport number. 
  6. Enter answers to the security questions if you had set them. 
  7. Enter New PIN 
  8. Confirm the Reset M-PESA PIN 
  9. You will receive a notification message indicating that you have successfully reset your M-PESA PIN. 

N/B: 

  • You are allowed a maximum of 3 PIN reset attempts after which, you will be barred for 7 days. You can, however, seek further assistance from Safaricom customer care. 
  • PIN reset will not be possible for those who have done transactions in the 24 hours prior to the reset attempt. It will also not be possible for those who have requested a SIM replacement within 7 days before the reset attempt.
