Machakos County

Machakos County is one of the 8 counties of the Eastern region (formerly Eastern province) and is one of the 47 counties of Kenya that were created by the 2010 constitution. It was curved out of the former Machakos District in Eastern Province. Size wise it is the 22nd largest county, covering an area of 5,950 km2 and the 9th in terms of population with 1,098,600 inhabitants as per the 2009 population census.

The county borders Embu County to the north, Makueni County to the south, Kiambu, Nairobi and Kajiado to the west and Kitui to the east.

Machakos County has 6 Constituencies,  Masinga, Yatta, Kangundo, Matungulu, Kathiani, Mavoko, Machakos Town, and Mwala.

The County headquarters of Machakos is Machakos Town.
