Kakamega County

Kakamega County is one of the 4 counties of the Western region (formerly Western province) and is one of the 47 counties of Kenya that were created by the 2010 constitution. It was curved out of the former Kakamega District in Western Province. Size wise it is the 26th largest county, covering an area of 3,030 km2 and the 2nd in terms of population with 1,660,700 inhabitants as per the 2009 population census.

The county borders Bungoma County to the north, Vihiga County to the south, Busia to the west and Nandi to the east.

Kakamega County has 11 Constituencies,  Lugari, Likuyani, Malava, Lurambi, Navakholo, Mumias West, Mumias East, Matungu, Butere, Khwisero, Shinyalu, and Ikolomani.

The County headquarters of Kakamega is Kakamega Town.
