Kitui County
Kitui County is one of the 8 counties of the Eastern region (formerly Eastern province) and is one of the 47 counties of Kenya that were created by the 2010 constitution. It was curved out of the former Kitui District in Eastern Province. Size wise it is the 8th largest county, covering an area of 2,435 km2 and the 11th in terms of population with 1,012,800 inhabitants as per the 2009 population census.
The county borders Embu and Tharaka County to the north, Taita-Taveta County to the south, Machakos and Makueni to the west and Tana River to the east.
Kitui County has 8 Constituencies, Mwingi North, Mwingi West, Mwingi Central, Kitui West, Kitui Rural, Kitui Central, Kitui East, and Kitui.
The County headquarters of Kitui is Kitui Town.
