What is lap swimming?

What counts as a lap in swimming could in most cases is the to and fro. From your starting point, you swim the length of the pool and back equalling two lengths.
However, in Olympics, a lap is defined as one length of the pool because an Olympic size swimming pool is 50 metres, while most recreational pools are half that size which is 25metres.

How long should I swim for cardio?

You should plan to swim for at least 30 minutes with very short breaks so that swimming can count as a cardio exercise. Commit yourself to swim at least 200 metres three times a week.

Endurance

Simply keeping yourself afloat activates the core muscles in your back and abdomen slimming will tone your butt muscles, but it will not help make them larger. Endurance exercises, such as swimming, encourage your body to build more slow-twitch fibers, developed through endurance exercise.

How often should you swim laps?

More experienced swimmers should make it their goal to swim at least four to five times a week. Many competitive and elite level swimmers train about five to ten times a week.
